Our Approach
Participatory
Involving key stakeholders (such as project staff, managers, clients, and funders) helps to build the credibility of an evaluation because:
- it ensures that the evaluators have a good understanding of the project and the issues involved;
- it ensures that the stakeholders have a say in the priorities to be addressed; and
- it helps the stakeholders understand and accept the evaluation results and the recommendations that emerge.
User-Focused
An evaluation is only good to the extent that it is useful and used. We support the use of our evaluations by:
- taking a participatory approach;
- focusing the evaluation on the factors that are most important in making future decisions;
- providing clear and concise information;
- supporting all conclusions by evidence; and
- ensuring that the recommendations are practical.
Rigorous and Ethical
Our methodology is guided by the Program Evaluation Standards, the Canadian Evaluation Society's Guidelines for Ethical Conduct, and the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans.
All of our professional staff and many of our associates are members of the Canadian Evaluation Society.
Learning-Focused
We understand the process of conducting the study can contribute to learning, sometimes as much as the formal reports. We try to make the evaluation experience an enjoyable, learning-focused activity for all involved.
